I am sending this e-mail because I for one am highly concerned with the state of the baseball team. I know most likely this will fall on deaf ears or that this will end up in the spam box, but I really need to send this e-mail either out of desperation for myself or for the fact that baseball has changed and its not what it used to be for the Pirates.
I understand that you sell out games with family night, and I understand that with the current amount of people in the seats are family members who can get good family deals. However, what are you doing for the real fans of this team? What are you bringing in that will create a buzz for the faithful who will buy tickets at any price or will support you to the end?
I mean, I look back all the way to the 1992, when you could have chosen between Bonds and Slyke, management chose an outfielder who no doubt was a fan favorite, and passed up on an elitist ball player, who turned into a mega monster of a hitter.
Why did it have to a decision as one or the other? Why not both? I mean later on in the years you signed Kevin Young and Jason Kendall to big contracts for hardly any payback from either one of them, and accepted their average play for years after that.
Or the fact that Van Benshoten(spelling) a power hitting first baseman/outfielder into a pitcher? I mean seriously what was the reasoning on that decision?
At this time I feel that you got lucky in the Bay trade, it was just another wash out for trading away another fan favorite(Brian Giles), and receiving, no name players in return in hopes of great fortune. Bay was no doubt a fan favorite, and I am surely going to follow his career whether it be in Boston or wherever else he lands, but at least he gave all he could for an organization, that has more interest in gaining fans through concerts and fireworks than good play.
So who’s next? Gorzo? Duke? Sanchez? Mclouth? It’s sad that a true fan of the sport speculates who the next person to leave is rather than anticipate what they will do with the future of the team.
I will negate to mention the likings of Oliver Perez and how he was handled with the team. Understand, that I love this town, I love this team, and live for black and gold, but I am sad to say that I would give anything to see the old pirates of the 60’s and 70’s play and dominate the field like they used to.
I suppose one day it will happen, but seeing as that I am 22 years old now, the team has been losing for 16 years, I fear that this long streak is a burden that is building like the Cubs or the Red Sox 90+ years without a championship.
I guess the only question I really have is, I understand your rebuilding, and I get that your trying to build a roster of young talent in the minors, but what are you going to do for the fans of your team that support you to the end, and are not concerned with fireworks, concerts, and all you can eat sections? I will be sending this letter to all newspapers and posting it on my blog, hope to hear a response. Thanks for reading and lets make 09 a productive winning year!
I figured today I would post something that was bugging me during these Olympic events. I dislike the new scoring and think its biased as well. I watched an interview from some German guy basically saying it was open to let more biased scoring in for teams that have a higher political advantage towards others. I think its pretty absurd that politics are ruining these games and creating such a buzz and poor publicity for these games. The kings of poor publicity during this time has to be China. That country has gone and dented so much of their reputation that it’s unbelievable how their country hasn’t had a revolt. Maybe its just because society there is under so much repression it can’t do anything but bend over and take it.
The Chinese governement, in one simple word “sucks.” They kicked a kid out of the opening ceremony because she didn’t seem like a good person to represent her country i.e. she was ugly. That’s absurd. The girl is 7 years old. But, we can’t get a great opinion about a country because they are lying bastards who try and represent something they are not. It’s just frustrating how much politics absolutely ruins everything in life. In this article here. The Chinese actually defend it as a statement of “favoring one girl and making one sit on the bench.” how so? You had one girl sit on the bench and then had that girl that was riding the pine do all the work while you had someone else gain notoriety? Piss on you China, your politics and what you want people to see earn you a spot in hell.
Next, another story that is so incredible I can’t believe it’s real. A performer was injured during practice and was not attended to for 50 MINUTES! Are you kidding me, seriously? She is now paralyzed from the waste down and some speculate that it could have been prevented if the Chinese governement would have let parametics enter in a timely fashion. Also, once everyone found out this person was hurt China went ahead and said that it was a broken leg. China, if we ever meet, I could shoot you. I honestly feel bad for people that live there and have no way to escape their government. Link to article http://au.news.yahoo.com/a/-/newshome/4898104
Haven forbid you talk about Darfur. What’s going on there is so balls, one can’t even comprehend that their government is a piece of shit. They revoked a visa of an American Olympian because he was an open activist for Darfur. Well newsflash China, what your doing to them is fucking insanity, I only hope that someday someone can do that to you, and killing someone’s dream of being a medal winner in favor of your good face is ridiculous. I hope the politicians die for it.
Their government is absolutly insane. You can’t have an opinion, you can’t protest, you can’t live, you can’t breathe, and to the Chinese government if you live there, you certainly have no freedom.
To everyone who reads this and are of a foreign nature. Please, don’t think I hate people of Chinese nature. I simply am astonished that this government can destory someone’s soul, and dreams in order for it to always seem like its one giant land of OZ.
Finally has raised their arms as champions again. Last night’s game was a total beat down and it couldn’t have come against a better team. I really just dislike Kobe and all that he has to offer. I’m pretty happy as well that my second favorite team Chicago didn’t go through with a trade to actually get him.
Alas, for now though, I am incredibly happy that KG got his ring. Yes, he doesn’t finish games some times, yes he gets streaky. But, its always been mentioned that he didn’t want to be looked at as the franchise player, he just wanted to play. After all this scandal and turmoil in the NBA, it couldn’t have gone better if either team the Celtics or the Lakers actually won the title. I think it was great that it turned out to be two storied franchises with a past of hate for each other, squaring off. Well, congrats again to the Boston Celtics! Can’t wait for the repeat!

Wow, and I sure am feeling it at work today. I am sure they felt it last night though ha ha. It truly was a gritty performance by both teams as it was played well into the night in a triple over time thriller.
It really was looking grim with a minute to go and the Red Wings closing in on their 11th Stanley Cup. Until the gods from above spoke and said Max Talbot will score the game tying goal, with the Pens goalie pulled. At that time last night, it had to of been 10:30pm and my parents in bed, I start yelling in excitement as it happened. I must have scared the crap out of my mom because she was like wtf.
Upon that time, I figured it was over in the first after a flurry of chances in overtime and sooner or later Fluery would have not stopped. But they kept coming and he kept producing. It was just an all around amazing night, even if alot of it had luck involved.
I’m just sick of the Detroit fans, I am sick of their “Ego.” I honestly hope that they fail hard or something dramatic happens and makes them rethink their situation. I couldn’t be happier to see them get whats coming to them. Well, maybe not as much as Cleveland(sucks).
On that note, Malkin got a most needed assist to help Sykora score the game winner. Fantastic job all around gang. Here’s to a game six victory and possible game seven victory as well. They are learning about the Red Wings more and more. Hopefully it starts bouncing in our favor.
I am just happy we took the Old guys on the Wing’s team 3 deep into the night, hopefully our young legs will be ready on Wednesday! Go Pens!
Shine them shoes boys and gals. Were going dancing. The Penguins totally abused the Flyers yesterday to capture the Eastern Conference Title and wrote in their spot for the Cup finals. Up until game time, you could tell here in PIttsburgh, the only thing people were thinking about was the time, when the game started, and everything other than those two things didn’t really matter. Because, at 3:30 on Sunday afternoon the Penguins went on to extinguish the Flyers dreams of making it to the Final Round of the playoffs.
Ray Shero looks like a freaking Genius with the trades he pulled off this year. Hossa and Dupuis have been making plays left and right, while the U.S.S Gill has been hunkering down the defensive lines. The Western conference seems a little cloudy as to who the more dominant team is. Detroit has given up two games to Dallas, and hasn’t been able to clinch that series ending win just yet. They’ll try and finish it up tonight and try and advance to the Finals.
Dallas, has shown decent play at times, Marty Turco is a machine in net when he is on. Detroit however, has let me down because I thought they would be smoking Dallas after going up three games. But with the loss of Franzen, it makes me wonder, is their age finally showing up? You can only get as far as your goalies can take you. Marty has been playing out of his mind, as well as our Marc-Andre Fleury.
I think Detriot ranks among the best, except I just don’t trust their Goalies, Osgood looks as if he is slipping at the wrong time in the play-offs, and Hasek was pulled early in the play-off first series. So surely confidence is a question mark for him.
Honestly, if it comes down to Detroit and Pittsburgh, It’s going to be one star studded series that probably won’t dissapoint. But either way…. I’ll take my Pens in 6. Also come join us at our new Forums page. The link is right here http://www.clayton-nichols.com/forum/phpBB3
and third series we lead 3-0. Thats an amazing feat for sure. The game last night, seemed to just drown everyone in the Wachovia Center in their tears except for the Pens. It would be awesome to see another sweep this post-season, and move on to the finals for one of the most anticipated matches of the last couple of years. Two hard-working blue collar towns facing off in the rink, Detroit vs. Pittsburgh.
Although these two teams are riding high with confidence, only one can win, and I honestly believe that the Pens have the talent to shut down or atleast slow the Zetterberg line down. It’s going to be tough because of how well skilled Detroit is. The only thing I believe suspect are their goalies(Osgood/Hasek), and they small defense.
I just hope we can bring another championship to a town that is riddled with winners. I’ll exclude the Pirates because there not going to be winners for a long time(unless you move them to Triple A). But the Steelers and Penguins are winners, and there is nothing better to have championships in two different sports, within years of each other.
It just changes the city, and everyone is much more personable and alive, we can all relate to at least on thing in this world, and for very brief moments at time time, we can all adapt and get along with each other. I really don’t even mind the commute into the city(1hr and 30 minute drive here from Greensburg) when DVE rocks the information about the Pens and the things that they say during the times of their games and after games.
On the topic of DVE, I like Mike Prisuta, as a Journalist, he often brings different aspects to his writings and he actually has a personality that shines through on the Air. I guess thats why he’s on the radio. Yes this went off topic, but Go Pens, heres to making a run at Lord Stanley’s Cup!
