Hello,

I am sending this e-mail because I for one am highly concerned with the state of the baseball team.  I know most likely this will fall on deaf ears or that this will end up in the spam box, but I really need to send this e-mail either out of desperation for myself or for the fact that baseball has changed and its not what it used to be for the Pirates.

I understand that you sell out games with family night, and I understand that with the current amount of people in the seats are family members who can get good family deals.  However, what are you doing for the real fans of this team?  What are you bringing in that will create a buzz for the faithful who will buy tickets at any price or will support you to the end?

I mean, I look back all the way to the 1992, when you could have chosen between Bonds and Slyke, management chose an outfielder who no doubt was a fan favorite, and passed up on an elitist ball player, who turned into a mega monster of a hitter.

Why did it have to a decision as one or the other?  Why not both?  I mean later on in the years you signed Kevin Young and Jason Kendall to big contracts for hardly any payback from either one of them, and accepted their average play for years after that.

Or the fact that Van Benshoten(spelling) a power hitting first baseman/outfielder into a pitcher?  I mean seriously what was the reasoning on that decision?

At this time I feel that you got lucky in the Bay trade, it was just another wash out for trading away another fan favorite(Brian Giles), and receiving, no name players in return in hopes of great fortune.  Bay was no doubt a fan favorite, and I am surely going to follow his career whether it be in Boston or wherever else he lands, but at least he gave all he could for an organization, that has more interest in gaining fans through concerts and fireworks than good play.

So who’s next?  Gorzo? Duke? Sanchez? Mclouth?  It’s sad that a true fan of the sport speculates who the next person to leave is rather than anticipate what they will do with the future of the team.

I will negate to mention the likings of Oliver Perez and how he was handled with the team.  Understand, that I love this town, I love this team, and live for black and gold, but I am sad to say that I would give anything to see the old pirates of the 60’s and 70’s play and dominate the field like they used to.

I suppose one day it will happen, but seeing as that I am 22 years old now, the team has been losing for 16 years, I fear that this long streak is a burden that is building like the Cubs or the Red Sox 90+ years without a championship.

I guess the only question I really have is,  I understand your rebuilding, and I get that your trying to build a roster of young talent in the minors, but what are you going to do for the fans of your team that support you to the end, and are not concerned with fireworks, concerts, and all you can eat sections?  I will be sending this letter to all newspapers and posting it on my blog, hope to hear a response.  Thanks for reading and lets make 09 a productive winning year!

Sincerely,
Clayton Nichols

So today I am pretty bored.  Usually Monday’s start off with a bang, but here at the office nothing out of the ordinary has happened.  We had one customer integration problem, but other than that, all I had to do was send it to our CMS database company and they work on it.

Sports are in a Lul moment, but I can safely say only 7 more weeks till vacation AND Steeler’s training camp.  I can’t freaking wait to go watch them(thats the glory of being a resident of Greensburg I guess haha)!  Other than that, the Celtics/Lakers series is turning out to be a pretty straight forward go around.  I’m rooting for the Celtics.  I love Coach Jackson, but when he went to the Lakers I felt he sold out.  I remember back when, the last championship Jackson won with the Bulls he said he was done….then the money pulled him right back.  I say more power to him, but it just comes off as a great way to join a stacked team with Kobe and Shaq to just gain some more rings.  Oh well, I’ll die with my tin-foil hate theorys hahaha.  Go Celtics!  I just want KG and Pierce to get a title, with what both of them have been through on mediocre teams and all, I hope they pull it off.

Hockey season is over and it ended on a stale note with the Pens, oh well maybe next year.  But, with what Hossa said earlier this week about signing for less, I really hope it comes through!  Although were gonna lose many decent players, maybe we can keep Sid and Hossa togethor for a few years.

Ok well other than that, I got nothing.  I hope everything is going smooth for the people that read my stuff out there.  Have fun and enjoy that weather.
P.S. Gas prices piss me off!

Wow, and I sure am feeling it at work today.  I am sure they felt it last night though ha ha.  It truly was a gritty performance by both teams as it was played well into the night in a triple over time thriller.

It really was looking grim with a minute to go and the Red Wings closing in on their 11th Stanley Cup.  Until the gods from above spoke and said Max Talbot will score the game tying goal, with the Pens goalie pulled.  At that time last night, it had to of been 10:30pm and my parents in bed, I start yelling in excitement as it happened.  I must have scared the crap out of my mom because she was like wtf.

Upon that time, I figured it was over in the first after a flurry of chances in overtime and sooner or later Fluery would have not stopped.  But they kept coming and he kept producing.   It was just an all around amazing night, even if alot of it had luck involved.

I’m just sick of the Detroit fans,  I am sick of their “Ego.”  I honestly hope that they fail hard or something dramatic happens and makes them rethink their situation.  I couldn’t be happier to see them get whats coming to them.  Well, maybe not as much as Cleveland(sucks).

On that note, Malkin got a most needed assist to help Sykora score the game winner.  Fantastic job all around gang.  Here’s to a game six victory and possible game seven victory as well.  They are learning about the Red Wings more and more.  Hopefully it starts bouncing in our favor.

I am just happy we took the Old guys on the Wing’s team 3 deep into the night, hopefully our young legs will be ready on Wednesday!  Go Pens!

Shine them shoes boys and gals.  Were going dancing.  The Penguins totally abused the Flyers yesterday to capture the Eastern Conference Title and wrote in their spot for the Cup finals.  Up until game time, you could tell here in PIttsburgh, the only thing people were thinking about was the time, when the game started, and everything other than those two things didn’t really matter.  Because, at 3:30 on Sunday afternoon the Penguins went on to extinguish the Flyers dreams of making it to the Final Round of the playoffs.

Ray Shero looks like a freaking Genius with the trades he pulled off this year.  Hossa and Dupuis have been making plays left and right, while the U.S.S Gill has been hunkering down the defensive lines.  The Western conference seems a little cloudy as to who the more dominant team is.  Detroit has given up two games to Dallas, and hasn’t been able to clinch that series ending win just yet.  They’ll try and finish it up tonight and try and advance to the Finals.

Dallas, has shown decent play at times, Marty Turco is a machine in net when he is on.  Detroit however, has let me down because I thought they would be smoking Dallas after going up three games.  But with the loss of Franzen, it makes me wonder, is their age finally showing up?  You can only get as far as your goalies can take you.  Marty has been playing out of his mind, as well as our Marc-Andre Fleury.

I think Detriot ranks among the best, except I just don’t trust their Goalies, Osgood looks as if he is slipping at the wrong time in the play-offs, and Hasek was pulled early in the play-off first series.   So surely confidence is a question mark for him.

Honestly, if it comes down to Detroit and Pittsburgh, It’s going to be one star studded series that probably won’t dissapoint.  But either way…. I’ll take my Pens in 6.  Also come join us at our new Forums page.  The link is right here http://www.clayton-nichols.com/forum/phpBB3

and third series we lead 3-0.  Thats an amazing feat for sure.  The game last night, seemed to just drown everyone in the Wachovia Center in their tears except for the Pens.  It would be awesome to see another sweep this post-season, and move on to the finals for one of the most anticipated matches of the last couple of years.  Two hard-working blue collar towns facing off in the rink,  Detroit vs. Pittsburgh.

Although these two teams are riding high with confidence, only one can win, and I honestly believe that the Pens have the talent to shut down or atleast slow the Zetterberg line down.  It’s going to be tough because of how well skilled Detroit is.  The only thing I believe suspect are their goalies(Osgood/Hasek), and they small defense.

I just hope we can bring another championship to a town that is riddled with winners.  I’ll exclude the Pirates because there not going to be winners for a long time(unless you move them to Triple A).  But the Steelers and Penguins are winners, and there is nothing better to have championships in two different sports, within years of each other.

It just changes the city, and everyone is much more personable and alive, we can all relate to at least on thing in this world, and for very brief moments at time time, we can all adapt and get along with each other.  I really don’t even mind the commute into the city(1hr and 30 minute drive here from Greensburg) when DVE rocks the information about the Pens and the things that they say during the times of their games and after games.

On the topic of DVE, I like Mike Prisuta, as a Journalist, he often brings different aspects to his writings and he actually has a personality that shines through on the Air.  I guess thats why he’s on the radio.  Yes this went off topic, but Go Pens,  heres to making a run at Lord Stanley’s Cup!

Since my Dali post is getting so many hits, I figured I should go ahead and write about another artist that I really dig, and try and pull alot of inspiration from when I try and create something worthwhile.  Andy Warhol being a local native of Pittsburgh immediatly grabbed my attention as a child because I felt that I instantly knew him(a sense of proudness I guess being born and raised around Pittsburgh…I was young…what can you expect…).  But, I grew up looking at his pictures thinking they were nice, full of color and crazy ideas, I just thought he was breaking the mold as to what other artists have done.  Now that I realize most of his drawings/painitngs/conceptions were all most likely drug induced, I still think they are amazing.

The 60’s were quite the time I would assume, and would like to for a day go back and just experience them.  Hell, I would love the fact that gas was practically free and everything was atleast a little simpler then.  But Warhol’s art is good enough to take me back and provide me an experience in American Pop Culture.

I guess I get more wrapped up in what the feeling was behind the art rather than the art itself, I should have taken a psychology course or something, just to dig deeper into the minds, and explore the thought processes of how things come about in life and the values and lessons they teach the artist.

The process is certainly fun, I enjoy reading and writing about these artist’s and how life has been handeled and constructed around them.  It certainly brings in a few more dimensions of our world.

So much has happened in the past couple of weeks, it’s been hard to post and actually spend some time on here!  I am now labeled as the Web Content Manger at Albert Elovtiz Inc.  The best way to describe what I do, is I am a web master.  I do all things web and deal with the web.  Pretty awesome because I can actually learn as I progress in my daily duties.
I loved where I came from, I’ll miss it for sure, but it was time to move on.  Life is funny like that.  Regardless of what anyone wants to think about being in control…your not.  Life doesn’t wait for anyone or anything.  This was just a simple case of me having to move on and grasp the opportunity that was given to me, and I am highly appreciative.  Moving on to another subject.  I am now thankfully back in the city of Pittsburgh…which was just rated the worst Soot city(http://green.yahoo.com/news/ap/20080501/ap_on_re_us/polluted_cities.html), taking of L.A.  Oh well though, I don’t notice it that much.

I’m a total city boy, I’m glad to be back in the city and seeing such a vast amount of culture and happenings on a daily basis.  It makes the 1 and 15 minute traffic commute in the morning bearable I guess.  That and you can always tell when a city is in a good mood.  The Penguins are in possible sweep mode of the New York Rangers, and the city is starting to have the feeling that we did when the Steeler’s went to the Super Bowl back in ’05.  It’s just an awesome feeling.

I’m just exstatic about the oppurtunities given when you work for them.  A new outlook on life, and a fresh start is totally warrented.  More to come as I figure this crazy awesome life out later….
